If your looking for a majestic Americana experience that continues to inspire the imagination of authors, artists, sportsmen and intrepid road trip explorers…then Montana’s Blackfoot River should rank high on your summer / fall travel list. Made famous by the great American novel (and Robert Redford classic movie) A River Runs Through It, Blackfoot remains relatively intact as a picturesque and awe-inspiring heartland oasis.
Do you like fly-fishing? Then make your plans to be in Blackfoot country between June and October. Trout is the game of choice for these waters, and Blackfoot is almost guaranteed to give any would-be angler a fair shot at several varieties: rainbow, brown, brook, bull and cutthroat.
The town of Missoula has many bed-and-breakfast establishments geared to the Blackfoot River tourist. Try calling Goldsmith’s Inn (406-728-1585) and/or Foxglove Cottage (406-543-2927) to get an idea of area rates and availability.
As far as activities go, you could contact Lewis & Clark Expeditions (406-449-4632) for the scoop on the great outdoors, Montana-style.
